Changed reply in topic of TFP - All Lights Shut off! by ArpAxxe to I reproduced this using a USB portable battery. The same thing can be done with a USB power supply like a nice wall charger.

I used a high quality ANKER 13000mAh battery that puts out a well regulated 5V supply. Anyhow when using this via a normal USB cable the TFP does exactly the same thing I described. It does not appear to startup when you press the power button as no lights or backlight come on. However if you look closely, it's clear the unit is actually running as the normal characters are being displayed actively on the LCD just without any backlighting. Even more strangely it actually does respond to button presses as the LCD changes accordingly but again with no backlight.

It seems that the TFP shuts down all the display lights when there is no connection on the data pins of the USB. So power is still running all the main processes, but the lights go out. A very strange design decision or mistake especially considering the unit still actively accepts input during this "blackout". The TFP does not need a data connection to operate and of course works just fine with a power supply alone. It behave consistently and accept power over the USB with the data connection.

It should be easy for you to reproduce this Nick with any decent USB portable battery or power supply. So long as there is no data connection, the TFP lights remain off..

Changed reply in topic of TFP - All Lights Shut off! by ArpAxxe to Only connected via USB at the point I was testing with the DAW. I didn't change contrast. It was not just the LCD that went off it was ALL lights on the TFP, pads, buttons, everything! And it would all come back on instantly the moment the DAW was restarted as though by command..
