Cannot get Keystudio 49i to work on Windows 7 computer

I recently got a new laptop (Toshiba Satellite P755, Windows 7 64-bit SP1, Intel Core i5, 6.00GB RAM) and today I decided to install my Keystudio 49i. I've spent the past hour trying to get it to work, to no avail. I downloaded the driver update for Windows 7 64bit SP1, I downloaded the GM Module, but the Keystudio 49i itself won't download off the disc. When I click install it says my computer's operating system is not compatible with the M-Audio Keystudio 49i at this time. The drivers installed themselves fine when I connected the device. If I try and run the GM Module it says the device is not connected. Any help?

  • Hi Mike,

Thank you for contacting M-Audio. Keep the 49i unplugged and install this driver:

Plug in the 49i once the driver installation is complete. You won't need the 49i installer disk.

  • Thank you for the reply! That has solved part of the problem. I can now get the basic piano sound out of the keyboard.

However, I now can't get the General Midi Module software to work. When I try to open it I get a message that says: "It appears that the KeyStudio 49i is not connected to your computer. Please connect the KeyStudio 49i. and the [sic] re-launch the M-Audio GM Module. If the KeyStudio 49i is already connected, ensure that the Keystone 49i driver is properly installed."

Turning the KeyStudio off and disconnecting then reconnecting yielded the same result. I un-installed the GM Module and re-installed it, and still the same error message appears when I try to use the program.

Thank you for the help thus far.

  • I'm having the same problem as you with my keystation 49i. Did you end up getting a solution for the "Keystudio not connected" error when trying to open the GM Midi sound module? I see there is new software available for similar M-audio products (Keystations) but the Keystudio 49i is not listed so software cannot be downloaded.
