I’m frustrated

M-track 2x2M popping and clicking through playback.

M-track 2x2M installed under Win 10, Core i5 3570K 3.4Ghz, 16GB DDR3, OCZ Agility SSD x 2, Nvidia GEForce GT970 (not relevant listed to cover all bases. Playing audio even if just from win media player or streaming getting pops and crackles randomly for no apparent reason.

Kinda disappointed, just replaced an Delta AP 2496 which never did this.

Have uninstalled and reinstalled, used different USB port. Upped buffer to 1050mb. tried different audio sources and different DAWS. still have the same issue.

  • So far, the best fix I found for this is if you are streaming audio straight from USB turn down the audio in Windows to 80%. This solved my popping issues for nearly all the audio and movie files that had the issue.

If you are streaming audio from Direct, turn down the audio in Windows to 50% and adjust the gains until the popping is gone. However, streaming audio to Direct from your PC the audio doesn't sound to be as "full" as it does when streaming from the USB.

To be clear, direct connection is using a TRS cable from your PC to the combo or instrument input to the m-track

    Hope that helps

  • Hi John,

    Thanks for posting!

Yes, it sounds like something is clipping on the way in. You can combat this by either turning down the software output a bit, or by not turning the USB/Direct knob all the way to USB. Just back it off a bit. Either one should work.

Esteban, why are you running the output of your computer through the input on the M-Track? The inputs are for recording guitars, synths, microphones,. etc. I guess you could do this if you wanted to record the output of your computer, but I would be worried about feedback loops.

    Hi Corey,

thanks for your reply, I feel like a massive noob. When setting up the interface the USB/Direct knob was all the way to direct, i turned it to USB and had sound so naturally assumed it had to be all the way over. I have done as you suggested and backed it off a ways and it seems to have resolved the issue, ran through some big string heavy peaces which is where it was particularly noticeable and didn't seem to be an issue any more.

Thank you so much for your help, I am now cheesing again :D

    Regards

    John

  • I am sorry but I really do not understand this.

M-Audio puts a button, knob, whatever, that you cant turn ?!?!?!?!?Just to see how you react or what? Love the masonic ideea but this doesn't work with THE DIRECT MONITOR KNOB !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why? Because I simply don' want Direct MONITORING !

Don't have your USB/DIrect knob turned all the way to USB ? WHAT?

"Both the M-Track 2X2 and M-Track 2X2M have a USB/Direct knob which allows you to blend how much of your input signal you want to hear with the signal from your computer. Turning the knob to the left (USB) increases the level of the signal from your computer while turning the knob to the right (Direct) allows you to hear more of what you have plugged into the inputs of your M-Track. If you're not recording and are just listening back in your music software, you may be inclined to turn this knob all the way to the left so you're only hearing your computer - DON'T! The M-Track 2X2 and 2X2M were designed to give you a strong and clear signal from your computer and turning this knob all the way to the left may overdrive the signal and cause distortion. Turn this knob a little to the right to give the signal some breathing room."

Turn it a liitle to the right ? WHAT?

"The M-Track 2X2 and 2X2M were designed to give you a strong and clear signal from your computer" Then what are we doing here? Why so many complains?

Why is it that in the manual says the exact oposite ?

I think you should admit that there is a build problem. YOU should have thought about the signal cliping and give "breathing" room.

And people feel bad for they had no idea that the knob wasn't meant for turning.

I wantmymoneyback ! Oh wait! They won't refund it!

  • My solution has also been to set the knob at 180 degrees. But it sounds fine at full USB when i use higher sample rate. Therefore its the drivers fault so fix it.

  • I am having similar issues...the card plays fine for hours at a time. Once I start to run several audio apps at once(I am an audio engineer and need this for my workflow) audio starts to glitch up, and on occasion drops out completely.

I am running WIN 7 Premium 64 bit, 16 gig. Any ideas why the drivers are CRASHING!?!?! My Edirol UA25 EX NEVER did this! I really like the M2x2 and want to keep it, but this needs to be resolved.

I realy like the latency on this card but I don't want stutters and plops on my sound !

  • You could also try it with a generic USB Audio (class 2) driver.
This solved all the issues with Windows 7 for me.
    Try this one for 2x2M

  • Another solution would be to change sample rate to 48k. Click/pop terminated!
