  • Hi Marky,

Sorry you are having trouble with this.

If you disconnect the Focusrite, restart your computer and connect only the CTRL 49, does the keyboard work?

Please make sure you have the keyboard setup correctly. Below i provided our setup instructions.

  • Hi I have a similar problem. The driver is not working correctly or not at all I should say. I am on Windows Home Premium 64 bit, I have no other usb audio or midi devices connected and I have I have downloaded the latest device driver and followed all of the proper installation instructions. The ctrl 49 has no communication with my computer at all.

When I go my control panel/hardware and devices and locate the information of this device driver details I get this code

"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

Please help me out, because it would be a real bummer if I had to send back this awesome controller due to a driver bug :-/

    Thanks!

No solution ? I've got the same problem... installed on a Surface Pro 4, and VIP doesn't launched properly. The only solution i've found is just not install any driver and only connect the CTRL : it declares 4 midi channels i declare them in my DAW, but i can't use the VIP onboard solution...

    Please help !

  • LoL

I was in the shop where i bought ctrl49. We tried out lot of things but without result. Funny thing is that they had sold ctrl49 to other windows users too, and didn't get any questions from them later. So i think that it might be some thing in my pc that crashes with m-audio driver, but can't find what it is. I uninstalled Norton too, but it didn't help. Maybe it's also depends on what kind of machine u have. My is actually a gaming pc, wondering if that is the case.
Seller also said it might be fixed when next driver update comes out. I'm sure i'll fix it, it will only take some time
But the fact that support doesn't answer is rly strange

I uninstalled driver and controller works, i can play, but VIP doesn't comes up on the ctrl screen so i have to browse in ableton. It's not what i expected, but i hope next driver update will come soon and work properly

  • I have Mac OS 10.12.3 using Ableton Live 9 Intro.

My Midi settings in Ableton are all set up fine (per the instructions on the M-Audio website), and I've downloaded the latest driver on the M-Audio site.

However, the keyboard will randomly lose connection with the software (aka fall out of sync). It works when you start Ableton Live, but after a short while of not touching the keys, it randomly loses connection.

I tried using an M-Audio Keystation 49es keyboard controller to see if the problem would persist and if it was a cable or software issue, but wasn't able to recreate the problem.

Also, when I downloaded the latest CTRL 49 Driver for Mac OS X 12 "v1.0.4" and installed it, I clicked on the driver and Command I "aka get info" and it's showing v.1.0.3 not 4.

What is going on? Is there something wrong with the Mac driver that's causing this issue?

    Thanks for your help!
    Jonathan

I have the same problem on my MacBook Pro with masOS 10.12.5 and the latest driver (v1.0.4).

The keyboard randomly stops working, and the only thing to do is restart the keyboard and the VIP or DAW software.

    • Hey Michael,

I'm sorry you're having trouble with your CTRL49. I see you've performed some troubleshooting already. It does sound like you may be experiencing a hardware issue. I would advise you to test the controller with another computer to verify that you can replicate the symptoms you are experiencing. If you can, I would advise you to get in touch with technical support directly to coordinate service. Warranty and non-warranty claims cannot be handled here on the forum but I can point you in the right direction! Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

      • Submit a Warranty or Service Inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the M-Audio Support Page. Select Warranty or Service Inquiry from the drop down menu. This will not require a support code.

      or

      • For faster support, call or email your nearest Support Office or International Distributor. Select your country to find the nearest office.

Make sure to reference or link to this thread to help out the support team.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

  • I am a brand new CTRL49 customer, it just got here today.

Like 365 xbox above I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1. I am getting error messages that the driver is unsigned and Windows would not use it because the OS requires the driver to be signed. (see snip image below)

I installed v1.0.5 of the drivers before connecting the keyboard for the first time today.

Funny that v1.0.5 is supposedly a version that fixes the driver signature problems. Did you forget to sign the 64-bit driver or something?

If it helps, I'll also post other snips showing the device manager entry with the yellow triangle, the driver version it thinks it is (3505), CTRL49 driver version installed (v1.0.5) from Uninstall a Program, etc.

This is not complicated. Either the driver is signed, or it isn't. Looks a lot to me like it isn't.

I have only installed the v1.0.5 driver installer on this system, again, I just got this today and have not installed any previous versions. I can't find any older versions than 1.0.5 of the drivers. Evidently there was a 1.0.4 but I can't even sneakily find it on their drivers download.

Obviously some people have gotten this to work, there are videos on youtube and they're not all Mac's.

Does anybody have an answer on this? I'm not going to be a guinea pig for this company's products, not for $449. If you want to send me FREE products and test them out on me, we can talk. But if I pay money for it I expect it work. If it doesnt work out of the box and support can't get me going, it goes back for a REFUND and I buy somebody else's product.

  • I had a trouble with ctrl49 for three weeks after i bought it. Last driver problem i had a week ago. I have it for 3 months. It caused a lot of stress to me to set up and VIP also is kind a complicated for some plugins like Kontakt, it doesn't finds Massive at all. I would like to return it, but now it's to late i think. Bought it for about 370€ . Now i purchased a midi interface for 40€ and use my Roland.

  • Thanks Andris I saw your posts in here. What OS and version (32 or 64 bit, Service Pack, etc.) are you running?

Not that I consider changing my OS an option. This products claims to be compatible with Windows 7 x64.

I've uninstalled, reinstalled, etc etc between 1.0.4 and 1.0.5 in enough different ways to know that I am wasting my time with either of them.

I also apparently have other trouble ahead if I ever get past the driver problem, I also purchased Analog Lab 2 which may not apparently just "automagically map" with VIP, and that is over 5000 patches to have to map.

But back to the driver problem, I don't think it's going to happen without them giving me a properly signed driver. Applying a crowbar or other blunt force trauma to the OS to try to disable its requirement for a signed driver is NOT going to be an option for me either. There is a REASON this is a requirement.

I also take offense to burning the complimentary support coupon code to discuss a driver engineering and release failure on their part.

They have TODAY to solve this for me. If I don't have a fully-working CTRL49 setup on my rig by late this afternoon I will be calling B&H Photo and Video and making arrangements for a refund.

There is NO EXCUSE for putting a product on the market that requires a driver to function as intended with an operating system the manufacturer advertises is supported, and releasing multiple versions of said driver -- including the 1.0.5 version which specifically claims to fix the driver signing problem -- with a driver that is not properly signed.

The requirement that hardware device drivers be digitally signed in Windows 7 is well-known.and Windows 7 has been out there for many years now. I don't use any newer versions of Windows but I am assuming signed drivers are a requirement for them as well.

So you really have to wonder about a company making hardware that is "supported" on OS X-Y-Z which requires drivers to function as advertised in that OS, but is apparently unable to produce drivers that meet one of the most basic, elementary requirements of drivers for that OS. Apparently even the ability to tell the difference between a signed and an unsigned driver is a question mark for them.

How exactly is v1.0.5 supposed to fix the signing issue? The driver isn't signed:

How long has this product been on the market!?!?! (this is a rhetorical question)

Can anyone recommend other 49-key or 61-key MIDI controllers with the type of features the CTRL49 has? I looked at Akai also but they had bad review/ratings from users about support, drivers, etc. and I understand now that Akai and M-Audio are under the same tent. At this point I'd be most interested in products NOT under this tent.

    Roland?

  • To the people who have a CTRL49 working fully with Windows 7 -- ie, your MAudioCTRL49.sys driver *WORKS* (assuming there ARE any of these people) --

If you don't mind sharing, which version of Windows are you running? (ie, Home/Professional/etc., also x86 or x86_64?)

Also, which version of the drivers are you running?

I'm trying to find a way I can stand to keep this thing. I have a couple spare computers I could set one up to use if it came down to it, but I can't just blow away my main rig at the drop of a hat.

    Thanks,

  • Hey Forty Years Gone,

I'm sorry you're having trouble with your CTRL49. I understand that you are already in contact with a technical support agent regarding this but I wanted to quell any concerns you may have about the digital signature of this driver. Please see the screen capture below for the digital signature and certificate:

As you requested this information, the operating system with which I am using the CTRL49 (Windows driver version 1.0.5) in this instance is Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, Version 6.1, Build 7601, SP1.

  • Nick thank you for posting that information. I have additional information which should be helpful to anybody else who encountered what I did.

I now have a working setup.

I spoke with Ara (spelling?) in tech support this morning who did make an interesting point that if my system did not see the driver as signed although it is, perhaps there were some updates I was missing. I have installed a few KB's and rollups post-SP1, but I have been on the hamster wheel too long to just let my system automatically update or blindly install anything willy-nilly.

Ara said he was going to research which specific KB's (at my behest) needed to be installed to correct the recognition of the driver, but I went ahead and started researching this myself in the meantime.

These are the details I have found myself:

    SOLUTION

Installing two Microsoft Windows 7 SP1-level updates related to support of SHA-2 signing algorithms corrected the issue for me. If you read the fine print on both of these, you don't actually HAVE to install the fix for KB3035131, but it is best if you do for the purpose of which updates your system shows have been installed. (if you only install 3033929, and then try to install 3035131 later, it will tell you it is already installed but does not show up in the list of installed updates).

I'll leave the details as an exercise for the reader (and you should always do your own research anyway), but these are the 2 fixes I downloaded and manually installed - MS15-025 first, followed by 3033929. Here are URL's to Microsoft's technet articles on the contents of these updates:

    KB 3035131 in MS15-025:

    https://technet.microsoft.com/library...

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...

After successful installation of these updates and reboots, the v1.0.5 driver installs properly and is recognized on the system:

And as an added bonus, VIP is now able to communicate with the CTRL49. :)

Thanks for recommending updates Ara. A lot of times telling someone to go update their system is sort of a brush-off, but you made a valid point that for some reason my system was not recognizing the driver as signed when you were able to uninstall/reinstall with no problem on a fully updated Windows 7 system.

That got the gears turning and I'm glad it led to a solution to this problem because I really want to keep this controller.

Now to finish the setup (hopefully).

    Thanks again

  • I use Windows 10 64 bit. No, my Roland is just a simple digital piano I use to play without VIP directly to DAW. About analog lab 2, it can work ok. In worst case, it may happen that u will need to load the patches to the VIP one by one like I did with kontakt and Nexus. Like I said some times VIP doesn't find the plugin at all, or maybe I do something wrong. I just gave up on this CTRL49 for now. I know a guy who uses other software in his studio, from which he can control kontakt, East West and other plugins, on Mac. If I find out the name of it, I'll post it here.

    Hope u'll get through this.
