To Buy Or Not To Buy?

i have been using youtube videos to learn the HOWs and WHATs for the proper way to use the TFP and Pro Tools 11. in one of the videos it says that in order to use pro tools i have to purchase a M- AUDIO audio interface box.

so my question is.. do i have to buy to an audio interface box in order to use my trigger finger pro with pro tools 11?

  • Greetings, AudioBully!
Based on my personal experience, I now advise producers to steer clear of manufacturers and vendors' products if said vendors refuse to continually support their hardware and/or software products with updates and drivers. You. Have. Been. Warned.

That said, kindly do your readers a favor and Reply here, with a copied and pasted link, that will point us to the video in which a youtube pudit made that outlandishly false claim, that an M-Audio audio interface is required for ProTools 11 please? Thank you!

but to see for youself.. this is the video i was looking at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXG6y...

  • Hey AudioBully,

    Thanks for posting!

The Trigger Finger Pro is a MIDI controller but it is not an audio interface and will not handle any audio signals. You can use the Trigger Finger Pro to input MIDI note and MIDI control data into your DAW (Pro Tools, etc.) and will not run into any compatibility problems. This knowledge base article will help you set up the Trigger Finger Pro as a MIDI controller with Pro Tools 11:

That said, there are specific audio interfaces that can be used with Pro Tools depending on the version of the software. This Avid knowledge base article will help you with audio interface compatibility for Pro Tools 11:

Avid Knowledge Base - Pro Tools 11 Approved Audio Interfaces and Peripherals

    I hope that helps you!
